Why We Use a Physical Touch Probe Instead of a Laser 

The AS MINI utilizes an innovative probe slide system equipped with a digital touch probe for rapid wheel profiling. While some competitors rely on optical laser mapping systems, we specifically engineered our machines to use a physical touch probe to ensure flawless precision where lasers frequently fall short.

• The Limitation of Laser Profiling: Laser probes map a surface by measuring the reflection of a light beam. While effective on flat faces, lasers struggle with complex geometries. If a wheel features a near-vertical incline near the center before flattening out, a laser cannot accurately read the steep drop-off because the light reflects away from the sensor. This loss of data makes it nearly impossible to map and cut such profiles accurately.

• The Touch Probe Advantage: By maintaining constant, direct mechanical contact with the wheel’s surface, our digital touch probe maps extreme angles and deep dishes with absolute certainty. It completely eliminates the blind spots caused by near-vertical inclines.
